Generally, they engage consumers through direct mail, cold calling and internet ads. Generally, they target consumers with less than perfect credit and offer them a low interest rate debt consolidation loan to lure them in. Consumers have reported that they fall victim to bait and switch tactics. Based on their credit report, they are told they do not qualify for the advertised personal loan interest rates and are flipped to a debt settlement product with higher monthly payments.
